Brett had a radiology conference in Washington DC a couple of weeks ago so we decided to pack everyone into the car and make it a family trip. His hotel room was paid for, which was nice, and was right by the Dupont circle metro stop which made it easy for Maya, Mason and I to travel around. We had a great time and loved visiting with my cousin Amy and her family and some of our good friends, the Harding family, who just moved from Knoxville a few months ago.
We met the Hardings at the zoo one day and Maya was so thrilled to see her friend Jake again. She has missed him so much since they moved away in January. It was so nice to visit with them again. We were able to get together at the zoo, for dinner, and at the aquarium. We had a great time talking, catching up and we were even able to squeeze a game of Settler's of Catan in.
We met my cousin Amy Zimmerman and her kids downtown at the Botanical gardens. I had never been there before and was impressed with all of the beautiful flowers and trees. The kids loved playing in the water and smelling the flowers. We found a picnic table outside in the gardens and ate our lunch and watched the kids play. It was so nice to be able to visit. Amy and I have always been really close and we've been able to see each other several times since we moved to Tennessee. It has been so nice to keep in contact and let our kids get to know each other too. Amy and I are actually second cousins once removed, so that would make our kids third cousins once removed, but hey, it's still family. :)

Checking out all of the flowers.
Maya and Mason took their first bath together. Mason loved being in the water and splashing around.
