Camping

Last weekend we went camping as a family to a place called Frozen Head State Park. We left around 3 pm on Friday and drove up there, with both kids sleeping in the back seat. When we got there Maya and Brett set up the tent and Mason and I set up the pack-n-play and chairs. Maya had a lot of fun picking up all of the rocks she could find and throwing them down on the ground. (the ground was covered with small gravel, so there were a lot of rocks) The campground we stayed at was great--bathrooms, a play ground, grills and plenty of trees and dirt to play around in. Our kids are at great ages right now for camping because Mason is still pretty immobile and Maya pretty independent. It was nice to be together as a family and not have outside interruptions. After setting up camp we took a walk through the forest to the play ground and played around for a while. Then we walked back, looking for firewood on our way. Maya and I both found pretty good sized logs for our fire and carried them back to camp. We roasted hot dogs and then taught Maya about the wonderful world of smores!! She actually preferred to just eat cold marshmallows and chocolate, but Brett and I enjoyed the gooey deliciousness of a perfectly concocted smore. Then we all piled into our 4 man tent for bed. Mason did great and slept almost all night without even a peep. Maya, on the other hand, wiggled around for about an hour before finally dozing off to sleep. We were up bright and early, enjoyed breakfast and then broke camp to make it home before the Saturday morning session of General Conference. What a wonderful weekend!
